The OCU women's basketball team returned from Christmas break to host the 5-8 Eutectics of St. Louis College of Pharmacy, looking to improve on their 2-4 record.
After taking a 45-26 lead into the locker room at the halftime break, the Oaks were able to cruise to an easy 76-57 victory, moving their record to 3-4 on the year.
Shannon Pittman came off the bench to lead OCU in scoring, posting 13 points. Maddie Ubelhor added 12 points and seven assists, followed by 11 points each from Emma Lander and Reanne Kietlinski. Julyen Condra chipped in with nine counters, followed by eight points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots from Aricka Prentice. Kietlinski also had eight boards, while Condra led the team with four steals.
Michon Forrest paced the Eutectics, scoring 18 points, on 6-8 shooting, while going 5-7 from the foul line. Allison Dewald scored 10, while Morgan Dermody grabbed a game high 13 rebounds in the loss.
For the game, OCU shot 30-68 (44.1%) from the field, including 10-21 (47.6%) from beyond the arc. STLCoP connected on 19-69 (27.5%) of their shot attempts, going 3-23 (13.0%) from three point range. The Oaks made 6-11 (54.5%) from the foul line compared to 16-20 (80.0%) for the Eutectics.
The Oaks held a narrow 48-46 rebounding edge, despite trailing 17-11 on the offensive boards. OCU handed out 26 assists, compared to just 12 for St. Louis Pharmacy, while trailing in assists 20-19.
OCU is scheduled to play Central Christian College of the Bible, in the Johnson Center, for a two-game series. Game one is scheduled for Friday, January 4, tipping at 7:00, followed by a Saturday, January 5, matchup, starting at 1:00 pm.
