Day-Off Policy
Oakland City University Athletics Day-Off Policy
The Oakland City University Athletics Department, in accordance with the River States Conference, Student-Athlete Council (SAC) and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) adhere to a mandatory Day-Off Policy once per week during our academic year. We value the well-being of our student-athletes academically, emotionally, and spiritually above all else, for this reason we value the Day-Off Policy as a way for our students to focus on nonathletic needs. Our Day-Off Policy restricts mandated team physical activity (i.e. practice, weight training, competition, etc.) during one day per calendar week. Communication between student-athletes and coaches on a Day-Off is permitted; student-athletes are also allowed to train on an individual basis (i.e. weight training, individual sport training, etc.) on this day. Oakland City University Student-athletes are encouraged to use this Day-Off toward academic responsibilities, physical recovery, mental health management, religious observations, etc. As a faith-based institution, we encourage our programs to take Sunday off whenever possible in order to better accommodate the spiritual needs of our students. If the competition schedule dictates otherwise, adjustments may be made, but the Day-Off will occur within the week, and this change will be communicated with the athletes and the OCU Athletic Trainers in advance. If a student-athlete feels that this policy is being violated, this should be reported to the Athletic Director directly.
