The Oakland City University men's basketball team won their fourth straight game, pulling away late to defeat the Flames of Welch College, out of Gallatin, Tennessee, 98-77.
Four Mighty Oaks reached double figures in the scoring column, led by the 28 points of
Logan Worthington, who made 11-22 shots, going 6-8 from the foul line, while grabbing nine rebounds.
Andrew Scott added 25 counters, while dishing out seven assists to go with three blocks and three steals.
Austin Robertson came off the bench to tally his first double-double in an OCU uniform, scoring 17 points and hauling in a game high 10 rebounds, while shooting 7-11 from the field.
Jacob Sanford added 14 points and seven rebounds, while
Tyler Toopes came up with eight points, nine boards and seven assists.
The Welch Flames also had four players reach double digits, as Spencer Smith came off the bench to lead the team with 25 points, thanks to a 6-9 shooting night from beyond the arc. Chris Thompson added 15 points off the bench, making 5-12 from three point range, while Marlon Mitchell and Luke Charlton each scored 10.
As a team, the Mighty Oaks shot 33-63 (52.4%) from the field, making 9-22 (40.9%) from beyond the arc. The Flames connected on 30-75 (40.0%) of their shot attempts, making 12-29 (41.4%) from long range. OCU made 23-33 (69.7%) from the foul line, compared to 5-9 (55.6%) for the visitors.
OCU held a 47-35 rebounding advantage, despite trailing 13-12 on the offensive glass. The Oaks handed out 26 assists, while committing 19 turnovers, compared to 14 assists and 21 turnovers for the Flames.
The Mighty Oaks will look to add to their winning streak tomorrow and Saturday, as they host the Chargers of Southwestern Baptist College, out of Laurel, Mississippi. Game time on Friday in the Johnson Center is 7:00, while a 3:00 pm tip off is scheduled for Saturday.
