OCU freshman Jacob Sanford had a career night, and Andrew Scott moved into second on the all-time scoring list, as the Mighty Oaks won their tenth straight game, all in the month of January, knocking off the Tigers of Campbellsville University-Harrodsburg 104-72.
Sanford led all scorers in the game, scoring 26 points, on 7-8 shooting from the field, including 5-6 from beyond the arc, and a perfect 7-7 from the foul line. Logan Worthington had a double-double in the contest, scoring 21 points to go with a game high 12 rebounds. Andrew Scott added 20 counters, while Tyler Toopes came up with 14. Both Scott and Toopes had seven assists, the most in the game, while Nathaniel Schmittler came one rebound shy of a double-double, with 12 points and nine boards.
Antoine Darby led the way for the Tigers, scoring 23 points, on 10-21 shooting, including 3-7 from beyond the arc. Tyron Duncan added 17 counters, while Damian Burdette came off the bench to lead the team in rebounds, with seven, while notching six points.
As a team, OCU shot 35-64 (54.7%) from the field, including 8-21 (38.1%) from beyond the arc. The Tigers connected on 31-75 (41.3%) of their shots, going 6-21 (28.6%) from three point range. The Oaks made 26-32 (81.3%) from the foul line, compared to 4-13 (30.8%) for the visitors.
For the game, the Oaks held a 50-33 rebounding advantage, including a 16-15 edge on the offensive boards. OCU handed out 29 assists, compared to 13 for the Tigers, while turning the ball over 15 times and forcing 16. Both teams had 10 steals, while the Mighty Oaks blocked 10 shots, compared to five for the Tigers.
With Scott's 20 points, he passed Stuart Love (1994-98), who scored 1,976 in his OCU career. At the end of the game, Scott's total stands at 1,985.
The Mighty Oaks will bring a ten-game win streak into their home game against East-West University, in a rematch of an OCU win, in the Johnson Center, on January 5, 106-63. Game time is slated for 7:00, in the Johnson Center, on Wednesday, February 6.
