Oakland City, IN – The Oakland City University women's basketball team dominated from the start as they hosted the Red Lions of Lincoln Christian University, out of Lincoln, Illinois. After opening with a 30-9 lead at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Oaks outscored their opponents in each period of play, finishing off a 102-57 win, moving their record to 1-2 on the young season.
McKendree Ward led seven OCU players with double digit scoring nights, posting 16 points to go with seven rebounds.
Malia Schmittler came up with a double-double, notching 14 counters and grabbing a game high 16 boards.
Xerena Tompkins,
Kiare Young and Lauren Bentley each scored 14, while
Reanne Kietlinski added 11 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.
Tabby Klem chipped in with ten points and six steals, while
Hailey Marchino added nine points and six boards.
Audrey Henningsen paced the Red Lions, scoring 17 points, followed by Keseanna Watson and Mikayla Smith, who each posted a dozen points. Henningsen and Watson each grabbed eight rebounds, while Smith led the way with five assists.
As a team, the Oaks connected on 40-87 (46.0%) of their shot attempts, going 10-28 (35.7%) from beyond the arc. LCU made 24-64 (37.5%) of their field goal tries, including 4-14 (28.6%) from long range. OCU went 12-13 (92.3%) from the charity stripe, compared to 5-6 (83.3%) for the visitors.
The Lady Oaks hauled in 56 rebounds, leading the 32 by LCU, including a 25-10 edge on the offensive glass. OCU handed out 26 assists while turning the ball over 13 times, while the Red Lions committed 25 turnovers compared to 13 assists.
OCU will carry their 1-2 record to New Albany, Indiana, where they will face the Grenadiers of Indiana University-Southeast, on Tuesday, November 19. Game time is slated for 6:00 pm.
