Mighty Oaks Survive Tough Battle at Simmons College

The Mighty Oaks traveled to Louisville, Kentucky, to take on the Falcons of Simmons College of Kentucky, a team they beat 92-63, in the Johnson Center, on January 26. After the first half of play, OCU trailed 38-35, but gained the lead early in the second period. The Oaks converted on the plays they needed down the stretch, winning by the final score of 75-67.

Andrew Scott led all scorers in the game, making 9-24 from the field, including 5-16 from three point range, on his way to 23 points. Logan Worthington had a double-double, scoring 16 points while grabbing a team high 11 rebounds. Tyler Toopes added 15 counters, while Nathaniel Schmittler added a dozen points and 10 boards. Jacob Sanford chipped in nine points in the win.

Michael Howell paced the Falcons, making 8-15 from the field, scoring 16 points to go with a game high 16 rebounds. Jonathon Henry added 12 counters, while Korey Mosley added 10 to the Simmons ledger. James White had eight points, while James Mosley came off the bench to score seven.

As a team, the Oaks made 30-69 (43.5%) from the field, including 11-33 (33.3%) from three point range. The Falcons connected on 25-73 (34.2%) of their shot attempts, going 10-32 (31.3%) from beyond the arc. OCU made 4-11 (36.4%) from the charity stripe, compared to 7-13 (53.8%) for the hosts.

For the game, Oakland City grabbed 46 rebounds, four fewer than the Falcons, due to an 18-14 deficit on the offensive glass. OCU outscored Simmons 34-28 in the paint, while leading 18-8 in second chance points. The Falcons held a 32-0 advantage in points off the bench.

Next up for the Mighty Oaks will be another road trip, as OCU will travel to Mount Hope, West Virginia, to take on Appalachian Bible College, on Saturday, February 16, tipping at 1:00 central time.
