Ubelhor and Prentice Honored as Lady Oaks Win on Senior Day

The OCU women's basketball team hosted the Cardinals of Andrews University, out of Berrien Springs, Michigan. After holding a 28-27 halftime lead, the Lady Oaks pulled away late to win 68-54.

It was senior day in the Johnson Center, as the two OCU seniors, Maddie Ubelhor and Aricka Prentice, took the court at home for their final regular season game.

Ubelhor led all scorers in the contest, making 10-15 from the field, including 7-12 from three point range, scoring 27 points to go with a team best 11 rebounds. Kiare Young added 12 counters and eight boards, followed by Xerena Tompkins, who scored 10 and hauled in six missed shots. Kayla Sanford notched eight points while handing out a game high seven assists, while Prentice scored six points, had five assists and a team best three steals.

Jayde Broussard led the way for the Cardinals, scoring 23 points to go with a game high 19 rebounds. Kia Williams also had a double-double, scoring 14 points and hauling in 10 boards. Nadira Cousins added 13 counters, while Brianna Kittleson and Allison Walean chipped in with two points each.

As a team, the Lady Oaks shot 27-65 (41.5%) from the field, including 9-27 (33.3%) from three point range. The Cardinals connected on 23-61 (37.7%) of their shot attempts, going 1-15 (6.7%) from beyond the arc. OCU made all five of their free throw attempts, compared to 7-10 (70.0%) for the visitors.

For the game, Oakland City was outrebounded 41-35, including a deficit of 15-11 on the offensive boards. The Oaks handed out 26 assists in the contest, compared to 10 for the Cardinals, while winning the turnover battle 18-11.

Next up for the 13-7 Lady Oaks will be the NCCAA Regional Tournament, held in the Johnson Center. Game one will feature OCU, holding the third seed in the region, against the second seeded team, held on March 1, at 7:00. The championship game will pit the winner of game one against the top seed, with the game being held on March 2, at 3:00 pm.
