Comeback Bid Falls Short for Lady Oaks at Kentucky State University

The OCU women's basketball season has been a tale with two stories, as the Lady Oaks hold a home record of 8-1, while dropping to 0-5 in games outside the Johnson Center. Their last loss came in Frankfort, Kentucky, against the Thorobreds of Kentucky State University. After falling behind 32-28 at halftime, the Oaks trailed by as many as 25 early in the fourth quarter. The Oaks mounted an impressive comeback, cutting the deficit to as few as five points, but fell short, losing 79-76.

Aricka Prentice led all scorers in the game, shooting 10-19 from the field, posting 24 points, while grabbing a team best eight rebounds. Fellow senior Maddie Ubelhor added 23 counters, on 8-12 shooting, including 5-9 from three point range, while Emma Lander an Kiare Young each scored seven.

Jessie Kee led the way for the Thorobreds, shooting 10-18 from the field, on her way to a double-double, with 23 points and 12 rebounds, while also handing out a game high six assists. Brook Wallace had a triple-double, with 23 points, on 9-14 shooting, 11 boards, and 10 steals, while Kiante Butts tallied 13 counters and 11 rebounds. Amani Williams also reached double figures, scoring 10 points to go with six assists.

As a team, OCU shot 28-66 (42.4%) from the field, including 9-26 (34.6%) from beyond the arc. KSU made 29-69 (42.0%) of their shot attempts, going 5-25 (20.0%) from three point range. The Oaks made 8-12 (66.7%) from the charity stripe, compared to 16-23 (69.6%) for the home Thorobreds.

For the game, the Lady Oaks were outrebounded 49-37, including a deficit of 20-12 on the offensive boards. OCU trailed in assists, 18-15, and lost the turnover battle 27-24.
