The Oakland City University baseball team improved to 9-6 on the season, beating Robert Morris University-Springfield twice, in the opening day of their four game series against the Eagles. Game one saw the Oaks pull ahead early, dominating in a 26-2 landslide. The second game saw much less offense, as OCU held on to a 4-0 victory.
Devan Franz went a perfect 3-3 at the plate in game one, including a double and a stolen base, scoring twice and driving in two.
Austin Morris was 2-2 with a walk, a double and a triple, driving in four runs, while scoring two.
Tyler Shamblin went 3-3, with a double, an RBI and three runs scored.
Joseph White was 2-2 with a double, four RBIs and two runs scored.
Noah Baugher went 2-4 with a walk, a hit by pitch, a double, an RBI, and four runs scored, while
Colton White had two hits in four at bats, scoring once and driving in another.
Dillon Whitten hit his sixth homer of the season, driving in three runs, walking twice and scoring twice, while
Landon Montgomery was 2-2 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored.
Jenrick Rivera went 1-2 with a walk, scored twice and drove in two, while
Will Davis was 1-2 with a walk, a home run, his first of the year, three RBIs and two runs scored.
Kayontae Alarcon had a hit and an RBI, while
Jacob Bedwell had a hit and a run scored.
Carson White was 1-2 with a walk and a run scored, while
Noah Gilbert and
Jesse Reed each scored a run.
Justin Hallum threw a complete game for the Oaks, earning the win to bring his season record to 3-0. He allowed two earned runs, scattering nine hits and a walk, while striking out five.
Game two saw Franz take the mound for OCU, throwing five and a third innings, allowing four hits and four walks, while striking out six, on his way to earning his first win of the season.
Jesse Reed pitched the final two-thirds of the sixth inning, giving up two hits, while Bedwell finished the game in the seventh, giving up one hit and striking out two.
Baugher went 3-3 at the plate, including a double, a sacrifice, and a run scored. Franz was 2-4 with a steal, scoring once and driving in two, while
Colton White went 1-4 with a run scored and another drivin in.
Mason Becher had a double in three at bats, and scored a run, while Rivera was 1-2 with an RBI. Bedwell and Whitten each had a single, while Bedwell also stole a base.
The Oaks will again host the Eagles for a double header at Pinnick Field on Saturday, with game one starting at noon.
