Evansville, IN – The Oakland City University Men's Soccer team came up short in their season opener, as they hosted the Eagles of Asbury University, on Monday afternoon.
The match was moved from Oakland City University's Aigner Field to the Goebel Soccer Complex in Evansville due to heavy rain.
In the first half of the match, neither team could find the back of the net. The Mighty Oaks out-shot Asbury 7-6, but trailed 4-2 in shots on frame. Oakland City had three corner kicks early on, but could not convert off of them.
The Mighty Oaks broke the tie in the second half, scoring a goal in the 58
th minute to give OCU a 1-0 edge.

Asbury responded in the 79
th minute with an equalizing goal, leaving the game tied at the end of regulation.
After going scoreless in the first overtime, both teams looked to make something happen, as they went into a second sudden-death ten minutes of extra time.
In the second overtime period, Asbury found the back of the net with 2:40 left on the clock, to finish the game with a 2-1 victory for the visiting Eagles.
Oakland City started the game with no player on the roster with starting experience against Asbury, and just four starters for the Oaks had started in the blue and white before.
The Mighty Oaks look to find their first win of the season on the road, where they will face Kentucky Christian University, Friday afternoon, with game time scheduled for 5:00 pm.
