Comeback Bid Falls Short as Lady Oaks Fall to Grace Christian Tigers

Oakland City, IN - After two straight weeks off, the Oakland City University women's basketball team hosted the Tigers of Grace Christian University, looking to build of their 4-1 record in their last five games. After trailing 42-31 at halftime, OCU fought back to gain a 58-57 lead at the end of the third period, but were unable to hold on, losing by the final score of 79-75.

The Oaks fall to 6-10 on the season, while Grace Christian improves to 10-14.

Malia Schmittler scored a game high 18 points, while hauling in a team best 13 rebounds. Kiare Young added 15 counters while handing out six assists, followed by Reanne Kietlinski's 10 point effort.

Grace Christian University had six players reach double digits in scoring, led by Allazae Lloyd, who scored 14 points and handed out five assists. Ashley Hoek added 13 counters, while hauling in a game high 16 rebounds, while Emily Libey came off the bench to post 13 of her own. Megan Scholtens and Megan George each authored a dozen counters, while Miranda Carlson came up with 11.

As a team, OCU shot 28-71 (39.4%) from the field, going 6-22 (27.3%) from three point range. GCU made 28-73 (38.4%) of their shot attempts, going 11-33 (33.%) from beyond the arc. The Oaks made 13-18 (72.2%) from the foul line, compared to 12-19 (63.2%) for the visiting Tigers.

For the game, OCU hauled in 50 rebounds, compared to 46 for the Tigers, leading 16-15 on the offensive boards. The Oaks handed out 22 assists, compared to 18 for GCU, while turning the ball over 19 times, four more than their opponents.

The OCU women will be back in action on Saturday, January 25, when they play host to Simmons College of Kentucky. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 in the Johnson Center, while the men's teams will square off at 3:00.
