Oakland City - The Oakland City University women's basketball team hosted the Grenadiers of Indiana University-Southeast, looking to avenge an 84-51 loss from November 19. After trailing 50-23 at halftime, the Oaks were unable to overcome the deficit, losing 92-58.
Kiare Young scored a game high 16 points in the loss, shooting 4-11 from the field, including 2-3 from three point range, while scoring on all six foul shots.
Malia Schmittler added 12 counters, while grabbing a game best nine rebounds.
Hannah Coleman scored 14 points to pace the Grenadiers, making 7-9 of her shots. Ariana Sandefur added 13, followed by 11 each from Josie Woods, Madi Woods and Maddie Knight, while Hannah Corus chipped in with 10 points and a team best eight boards in the win.
As a team, the Oaks made 21-62 (33.9%) from the floor, including 6-17 (35.3%) from beyond the arc. IU-Southeast connected on 35-76 (46.1%) from the field, going 7-25 (28.0%) from three point range. OCU went 10-13 (76.9%) from the foul line, compared to 15-19 (78.9%) for the visitors.
OCU trailed 47-38 in rebounding, including an 18-12 deficit on the offensive boards. The Oaks handed out 15 assists, compared to 22 for the Grenadiers, while committing 19 turnovers, a full 10 more than IU-Southeast.
The Lady Oaks will next play Grace Christian University, in Wyoming, Michigan, on Saturday, February 8, tipping off at 11:00 am central time.
Needing to reach nine wins to qualify for postseason play, the Lady Oaks will need to win each of their final three scheduled games.
