The Lady Oaks came out with a whopping 6-1 win against Brescia on Thursday, September 29.
From the kickoff, the Lady Oaks started off strong and dominated the first half maintaining possession and creating chances throughout. With 12 minutes remaining of the first half, Brescia got a corner from the left which was played short to the edge of the box. Two Lady Oaks attempted to block the ball, but were unsuccessful as the shot lobbed
Kassidy Elkin and floated in to the top right hand corner of the net making it 1-0 to Brescia.
The Lady Oaks were determined to not have a repeat from the 1-0 loss last year against Brescia and counterattacked, leading to a goal four minutes after the Lady Oaks conceded.
Similarly, the Lady Oaks had a corner from the left hand side that Maddy Myers took. Myers played a brilliant back post ball to
Madison Ward which hit off the post and went in to make it 1-1.
Kayla Nunes took a throw in from the left hand side to Ward's feet who laid the ball to
Madison Nicolas. Nicolas beat the whole backline and shot the ball in the bottom left corner, beating the keeper at the near post, to make it 2-1.
From the restart, the Lady Oaks won the ball back with a minute remaining and won a corner with less than 20 seconds left in the first half. Myers took the corner with 11 seconds remaining. Brescia's keeper failed to catch the ball, making it fall to
Lauren Zirkelbach's feet who one touch volleyed it into the back of the net making it 3-1 with 1.6 seconds remaining in the first half.
In the second half, Nunes threw in the ball, got it back and passed the ball to Nicolas who made a run from the edge of the box to retrieve the ball. Nicolas then found
Molly Knox who was free with acres of space in the center who took a touch and shot. The shot hit the crossbar and got some help from the keeper to find the back of the net, making it 4-1. From the kickoff, Brescia shot the ball from the half which allowed Elkin to collect the ball easily in the box. From Elkin's punt, Nicolas challenged for the ball and Zirkelbach headed it forward to
Claudia Melgar. She ran with the ball and shot from outside the box to beat the keeper at the near post making it 5-1.
From Brescia's goal kick, their winger took a bad touch which made the ball fall to
Rachael Poneskis.
Alana Doherty made a run from the middle to the right wing and received the ball from Poneskis. She then beat a player, dribbled it into the box, and passed it into the near post to beat the keeper, making it 6-1 with 3 minutes remaining.
The Lady Oaks continued to attack and the game ended 6-1. The Lady Oaks finished with 27 shots with 21 on target compared to Brescia's three shots and two on target. Elkin finished the match with one save.
With two conference wins secured, the Lady Oaks will look to continue their streak when they face Ohio Christian University at home on Saturday, October 1 at 2:30pm. GO MIGHTY OAKS!!
