Owensboro, KY – On September 23, the Oakland City Mighty Oaks Volleyball traveled to Owensboro to match up with Brescia University. After the winning the first set, Brescia took command in the game, but the Lady Oaks did not give in and fought their way back in the match.
In a very close matchup, the Lady Oaks won the first set with a score of 26-24. In the second and third set, the Brescia Bearcats found their groove and won, putting the pressure back on Oakland City.
In the fourth, do-or-die set for Oakland City, a 25-21 victory was enough to tie up the score in sets and force a fifth set. Winning this set was a big momentum boost for the Lady Oaks, because they kept on going and won set number five with a score of 15-10.

Larry Hinshaw, who is in his third season with the Mighty Oaks, won their first match of the 2022 season. It was a big victory against a conference rival.
Samantha Johnson (13), Jazmyn Rodriguez (10) and
Laura Betsa (8) played a big role in the Mighty Oaks offense, leading the team in kills.
Mariana Anastasiadi (19),
Callie Foster (12) and
Dunja Madjarevic (10) were also important, leading the team in assists. On defense,
Malia Schmittler lead the team with two blocks and Madjarevic played a big role with seventeen digs.
On September 24, the volleyball squad traveled to New Albany, IN to take on Indiana University Southeast for the second time this season. They fell short and lost 1-3 to the Grenadiers. The next home event will be on Tuesday October 4, at 7:00 PM versus Brescia University. We are excited to see everyone show up in the Johnson Center and support the Lady Oaks to another victory!
