Oakland City, IN – With the end of the season nearing, the Oakland City volleyball team played their last home game on Tuesday. Indiana University East was the opponent in the match that started off on a good note for the Mighty Oaks.
The Lady Oaks started off great against a very strong IU East team. The Red Wolves are 24-5 on the year, with a 14-3 River States Conference record. That did not stop the home squad from competing from the start. The first set was won by Oakland City with a score of 25-19.
After the first set, the game went downhill quickly for the squad of coach
Larry Hinshaw. The next three sets were all lost (17-25, 13-25, 15-25) by Oakland City. With this the last home game for the Mighty Oaks fell apart rather rapidly. There are two more matches on the schedule, both will be in Pittsburgh, PA.
For the Lady Oaks,
Malia Schmittler (9),
Samantha Johnson (8) and
Desheonna Foster (6) led the team in Kills.
Mariana Anastasiadi led the team in aces (2) and assists (22), while
Yianmarie Catala led the team in digs with twelve.
To wrap up the season, the volleyball squad is travelling to Pittsburgh by the end of the week. Point Park University will be the opponent on November 4 at 7:00 PM and Carlow University will be up November 5 at 11:00 AM.
