Oakland City, IN – To start of a double-header in the Johnson Center, the Oakland City women's basketball team took on a very strong Indiana University South Bend squad on November 12. In very close game, the Lady Oaks just fell short.
After getting ahead on the first play of the game, Oakland City quickly ran into an eight-point deficit. The Lady Oaks slowly fought their way back in the game. By the end of the first period, the score was 24-14 in IU South Bend's favor.
The second period went better for the home squad. A thirteen-point deficit was shrunk to only six-points. 45-39 was the score at halftime. It looked like the momentum had kind of switched and the Mighty Oaks started to grow in the game.
In the third period, the Lady Oaks kept inching closer to tying the game, but they were never able to break through. By the end of the period, IU South Bend was still up seven points.
Near the end of the game, Oakland City got on a hot streak. A free-throw by
Monesjia Harvey was followed by two layups from
Davinique Campbell.
Emilee Hope tied the game up with a three-pointer at 75-75.
IU South Bend was able to regain the lead with two three-pointers and a layup. Hope was able to give Oakland City one last chance with a three-pointer in the last minute. It did not end up being enough to take over the momentum as IU South Bend was up 87-82 when buzzer rang.
With nineteen points,
Davinique Campbell led the team. Campbell was very successful form the free-throw line, scoring seven out of eight attempts, she also had a team-leading nine rebounds in the game.
Emilee Hope led the Lady Oaks in three-pointers, with four.
The Oakland City Mighty Oaks fell short in very close game versus a very strong opponent; IU South Bend is now 6-0 on the year. Oakland City's record stands at 4-2 before entering the first week of River States Conference play. On Tuesday, November 15, coach
