Oakland City, IN – For their second game of the season, the Mighty Oaks Women's Basketball hosted Huntington University in the Johnson Center at 6:00 PM. What started as a very close game, evolved into a solid victory for Oakland City as the game went on.
After a very close first quarter, which ended with a score of 14-14, the Mighty Oaks of coach
FahKara Hawkins figured some things out. In the second period, they took a commanding lead. 38-29 was the score at halftime.
The big strength in the second quarter was the Lady Oaks' ability to shoot. Out of thirteen tries, they made ten field goals. They also scored two of their four three-point opportunities. Throughout the entire game, the Mighty Oaks didn't have trouble creating chances to score, in the second period, most of these were turned into baskets.
In the last two periods, Oakland City kept expanding their lead. The final score versus Huntington University was 73-58, which improved the Mighty Oaks' record to 2-0 on the year.
For Oakland City,
Monesjia Harvey scored the most points with seventeen, followed by
Davinique Campbell who made sixteen. Harvey also led the team in rebounds, she had six, just like
Jalaya Dowell. Emiliee Hope made the most three-pointers for the Mighty Oaks, she had two.
Next up for the Lady Oaks is the First Bank Richard Tournament at Indiana University East. During their time in Richmond, Indiana they will start off versus Indiana Wesleyan University on November 4. The next opponent is still to be decided. Next week, coach Hawkins and her squad will travel to Evansville for a game at the University of Southern Indiana (NCAA D1) on Monday November 7 at 6:00 PM.
