Home Victory for Lady Oaks Versus Grenadiers

Oakland City, IN – Yesterday at 1:00 PM, the Lady Oaks took the court in the Johnson Center for their second River States Conference matchup. The Grenadiers of Indiana University Southeast, who were 6-1 entering the game traveled to Oakland City.

The first period started off good for the Lady Oaks, who were at one point leading by twelve. A big part of the early lead was Ellen Meeringa's success from beyond the three-point line. She was able to make three three-pointers in three attempts during the first period.

The lead kept growing in the second quarter. Two good free-throws by Taylor Dillard, followed by two good jumpers from Jalaya Dowell, gave Oakland City a fourteen-point lead.
The Grenadiers slowly fought themselves back in the game, but the Lady Oaks were able to keep the lead in their possession. Tabatha Klem finished strong in the second period, finding the basket three times in the last three minutes.

IU Southeast came back in the game a little bit after halftime. They won the third period by a score of 27-23. No damage was done for the Mighty Oaks yet, as they entered the fourth period still leading by nine.

Nothing was said and done with still ten minutes left to play. The Grenadiers showed some fight and were able to shrink their deficit to only four points, about halfway through the fourth quarter.

Another good three-point shot by Ellen Meeringa, followed by a layup form Tabatha Klem and a good free-throw from Taylor Dillard, reassured the lead for Oakland City.
The Lady Oaks were able to celebrate an 83-76 victory versus a tough opponent in the Johnson Center. This victory improved their overall record to 6-2 and their RSC record to 2-0 on the year.

Ellen Meeringa led the Lady Oaks in points, with seventeen. Fifteen of those points came from behind the three-point line, as she was successful five out of five times. Jalaya Dowell followed Meeringa on the leaderboard with sixteen points. Davinique Campbell led the team with fifteen rebounds.
