Men’s Basketball Grabs Another Road Victory

Louisville, KY – On November 5, the Oakland City men's basketball team traveled to Louisville, Kentucky to play their second game of the year at Simmons College of Kentucky. In a low-scoring affair, the Mighty Oaks took home the victory.

Oakland City started off a little slow, as the Falcons of Simmons College took an early lead. Every time that the squad of coach Ken French came closer, the home team expanded their lead again. The Mighty Oaks were able to turn an eight-point deficit into a very close game, being down 26-27 by halftime.

Domantas Sakickas, the Lithuanian forward, scored the first bucket for the Oaks in the second half to take the lead. The game kept going back-and-forth, but Simmons College grew to six-point lead about halfway through the second half. With a little less than eight minutes left in the game, Oakland City was able to tie the game back up at a score of 46-46.

It looked like the Mighty Oaks took command of the game for the first time, but with three minutes left evened up the score once again at 54-54. A free-throw caused Oakland City to fall behind one last time. A three-pointer by Sakickas, followed by some successful free-throws helped Oakland City shutting the door and sealing the victory. The Mighty Oaks won with a score of 62-57 in Louisville, with that they collected their second victory on the road and improve their record to 2-0 on the year.

The point leaders for the Mighty Oaks were Drake Moore and DJ Redding, who both scored eleven, Allen Sims followed them with ten. Jake Cochran was most successful from the free-throw line as he made four out of five attempts. Parker Harrington, Cochran and Sakickas were all good for one three-pointer, helping Oakland City to the victory.

Next up for coach Ken French and his squad is another game on the road, this one in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where the Mighty Oaks will take on the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga for an exhibition match. This will take place on November 10, later that week will be the first home event for the Mighty Oaks. Simmons College of Kentucky will be the opponent once again, this time in the Johnson Center.
