Oakland City, IN - Looking to move up the River States Conference rankings, the Oakland City University women's basketball team, with their overall record of 12-10, 8-5 in RSC action, hosted the 16-7 Eagles of Alice Lloyd College, owners of a 9-5 mark in conference play. After pulling away early, the Oaks went into the locker room at halftime leading 45-28. OCU picked up in the second half where they left off, winning by the final score of 92-52, and overtaking ALC for second place in the RSC west standings.
Emilee Hope poured in a game high 21 points, coming off the bench to make 7-16 from the field, including 5-13 from three point range.
Taylor Dillard added 13 counters, followed by 11 apiece from
Marissa Austin,
Malia Schmittler, and
Davinique Campbell, while
Kiare Young added 10.
Jalaya Dowell grabbed a team high seven rebounds, while Austin handed out a game best six assists.
Kristen Cole-Williamson paced the Eagles, scoring 12 points off the bench, on 3-6 shooting, while going 6-10 from the foul line. Hannah Kash was the only other Alice Lloyd player to reach double figures, as the starter made 4-12 from the field, including 2-5 from three point range, to score 10. Maddie Thompson had six points for ALC to go with a game high nine rebounds in the loss.
As a team, OCU connected on 33-75 (44.0%) of their shot attempts, making 9-32 (28.1%) from three point range. The Eagles scored on 17-72 (23.6%) of their field goal tries, including 3-22 (13.6%) from distance. The Oaks went 17-25 (68.0%) from the foul line compared to 15-23 (65.2%) for the visitors.
Oakland City hauled in 59 rebounds, while Alice Lloyd grabbed 47, with OCU holding a slim 20-18 edge on the offensive glass. The Oaks handed out 21 assists, more than doubling Alice Lloyd's nine, while OCU's 14 turnovers were two less than the Eagles, who committed 16.
Next up for the Oaks is a road trip to Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College tomorrow, where they are scheduled to tip off at 2:00 pm.
