Men's Soccer Draw Second Tie of the Year

Oakland City, IN – On a beautiful Wednesday afternoon the Mighty Oaks soccer team took on William Woods University at Aigner Field. Both teams entered the game with a 1-1-1 record.
The Mighty Oaks started the game off strong, possessing the ball for the majority of the first half and had several quality shots on goal. In the 20th minutes of the first half, William Woods almost made advantage of a defensive miscue by the home squad. A clutch save by goalkeeper Laurin Aumueller, was followed by some solid team defense to keep the score at 0-0.

Even though Oakland City was playing better soccer all of the first half, William Woods was the first team to score. Lubos Polacko scored the 1-0 in the 29th minute. The Mighty Oaks came right back in the game as it only took them five minutes to tie the game back up. A beautiful volley by Matt Menegon ricocheted of the goalkeeper before it was tapped in by Brian Elizarraras. This goal turned out to be an important one as it put the 1-1 on the scoreboard, which also happened to be the final score.
Both teams managed to make a few scoring attempts in the second half, but none of the shots went in. The Oaks out shot the Owls in the first half 11-5 and continued that dominance in the second half out shooting the Owls by a total of 18 (12 on goal) to 9 (6 on goal) for the Owls. The Oaks had 5 saves to the Owls 11 and the Oaks lead in corner kicks 7-1.

With that, the men of coach Adam Sell, who is currently in his first year as the Mighty Oaks men's soccer head coach, are 1-1-2 on the season.
Their next matchup will be at the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy in St. Louis on September 7, followed by a home match on Saturday September 10 versus Campbellsville University at 3:30 pm.
