Oakland City, IN- The Mighty Oaks were victorious on the road in a midweek match against St. Louis College of Pharmacy. Following the win against Berea at the weekend, the Mighty Oaks got their first clean sheet of the season with the score ending 3-0.
The Mighty Oaks had many chances in the first half, but the UHSP keeper was agile and kept her team in the game. The Mighty Oaks eventually managed to put one past the keeper midway through the first half.
From a throw in deep in the oppositions half, the ball was cleared to a Mighty Oak player and a shot from a Mighty Oak hit off a defender which fell kindly to Claudia Melgar's feet for a back post tap in to make the score 1-0 at halftime.
The Mighty Oaks started the second half off strong with more shots on goal. The second goal came after Rachael Poneskis received the ball at the edge of the box and played it back to Kayla Nunes out wide who found Alana Doherty's feet. Doherty then beat her player, took the ball further into the box, and shot the ball into the roof of the net making the score 2-0.
With just under 15 minutes remaining in the second half, a goal line save was forced upon Megan Knox from UHSP after winning a freekick near the halfway line. Kassidy Elkin came out of her goal to retrieve the ball, but the striker got there first. If it wasn't for Knox's recovery run, the score would have been 2-1 but the Mighty Oaks managed to keep their clean sheet.
Ten minutes before full time, the Mighty Oaks got a freekick 45 yards out. Molly Knox produced a back post ball that Doherty ran onto and lobbed the ball over the keeper with a header to make the score 3-0 to the Mighty Oaks.
