12-12 Shooting Effort From Dowell Gives OCU Women 10-0 Mark In RSC Play

Oakland City, IN - Behind a perfect shooting night from Jalaya Dowell, the Oakland City University women's basketball team remained perfect in River States Conference action, knocking off the Trailblazers of Ohio Christian University. The undersized trailblazers had no answer inside, as the Oaks turned a 51-33 halftime lead into a 95-71 victory, moving to 15-3 on the year and 10-0 in conference play. 

Dowell finished the game with a game high 26 points, equaling her best shooting night in her career with her 12-12 effort, tied for the second more made shots without a miss in OCU women's basketball history. Adding to the win was the 19 point effort from Emilee Hope, who made 6-13 of her shots, including 3-8 from three point range. Tabatha Klem came off the bench to pour in 16 points, making 5-6 from the field and 6-6 from the foul line. Davinique Campbell grabbed a team high 10 rebounds while scoring eight points in the win. 

Rachel Bolyard paced the Trailblazers with 21 points, making 7-16 from the field, 5-9 from three point range, and 2-2 from the line. Haley Cox added 16, followed by Ashley DeWeese with 14 counters.

As a team, the Oaks made 36-78 (46.2%) of their shots, despite shooting just 3-19 (15.8%) from beyond the arc. The Trailblazers went 22-58 (37.9%) from the field, including 7-22 (31.8%) from long range. Both teams went 20-25 (80.0%) from the line. 

Overall, the Oaks held a 48-32 advantage on the glass, including a 20-10 lead on the offensive boards. Oakland City also handed out 10 more assists than Ohio Christian, 21-11, while winning the turnover margin 27-19, which led to an 18-5 lead in steals. 

Next up for the Mighty Oaks is a matchup against the River States Conference East leading Red Storm of the University of Rio Grande on Saturday, tipping off at 11:00 am in the Johnson Center. Each team holds a 10-0 mark in conference play this season and will look to position themselves to claim the regular season championship. Rio Grande is currently ranked 11th in the country in the NAIA poll, while Oakland City is receiving votes.
