Mighty Oaks Men's Basketball Falls To Midway In Fourth Straight Loss

Oakland City, IN - The Oakland City University men's basketball team hosted the Eagles of Midway University looking to avenge a 64-55 road loss on November 15. Poor shooting and lackadaisical defense dashed the Oaks' goal, as Midway used a 43-21 halftime lead to cruise to a final win of 84-59.

The loss drops the Oaks to 8-15 on the year, including 2-11 in RSC play. OCU has lost four straight games, and ten of their last 11 outings.

Drake Moore was the only OCU player to reach double digits in the scoring column, going 3-9 from the field, while making all four of his foul shots, to reach 10 points. Allen Sims contributed eight counters, despite shooting just 4-10 from the field, while Josiah Wright came off the bench to score seven, making both of his shots and going 3-4 from the foul line. DJ Redding grabbed a team high six rebounds, while Domantas Sakickas blocked two shots.

Donnie Miller was the leading scorer for the Midway side, coming up with 24 points despite making just 9-25 from the field, including 2-7 from three point range, while going a perfect 4-4 from the foul line. Tobias Thompson added 12 points with an efficient 6-6 shooting effort, while Nick Keeton made 4-8 from the field and 2-4 from the three throw line, scoring 10 points to go with his game high eight rebounds.

As a team, OCU managed to make 21-66 (31.8%) of their field goals, including a dismal 1-16 (6.3%) from behind the arc. Midway went 31-66 (47.0%) from the floor, scoring on 4-15 (26.7%) from long range. The Mighty Oaks made 16-20 (80.0%) from the foul line, compared to 18-30 (60.0%) for the Eagles.

Overall, the Oaks held a slim 46-44 rebounding lead, including a 16-12 edge on the offensive boards. Midway held a lead in assists (11-5), steals (12-3), and turnovers (18-9), while OCU blocked eight shots compared to three blocks by the Eagles.

The Mighty Oaks will be back in action on February 4, when they travel to New Albany, Indiana, to take on the Grenadiers of IU Southeast in a River States Conference double-header. The women's game is scheduled to start at 1:00, with the men's matchup to follow.
