Oakland City, IN- Saturday afternoon the Mighty Oaks hit the pitch welcoming the Bears of Shawnee State University to Aigner Field for the River States Conference Quarterfinal match up. These two teams had recently squared off at SSU resulting in a 1-1 draw.
Oakland City struck early taking a 1-0 lead off of a 25 yard shot and goal by Pablo Belmonte Herrera in the 6th minute followed by another goal from him in the 16th minute. The Mighty Oaks carried this 2-0 lead into the halftime break, outshooting the Bears 7-1 in the first half.
To start the second half, the Mighty Oaks came out strong again scoring quickly in the 63rd minute as
Adam Dimba found the back of the net on a cross from Carlos Dominguez. After a goal in the 79th minute by Carlos Vial, assisted by Brian Elizarras, the Mighty Oaks advanced to the Semifinal round.
Oakland City dominated the game statistically. They lead in shots, 10-1, and corners 4-0.
Mighty Oaks Mens soccer team hit the road for West Virginia Tech on Tuesday with a game time of 4pm Central Time on Wednesday.
