Oakland City, IN - On senior day in the Johnson Center, the Oakland City University women's basketball team hosted the Cougars of Indiana University Kokomo, cruising to a 99-63 victory, improving to 19-6 on the year, including a record of 14-3 in River States Conference play. IUK dropped to 2-24 overall, including a record of 2-15 within the conference.
The Oaks recognized the four seniors in the program for their contributions to the team during their time at OCU. Senior student managers
Asia Williams,
Jasmine Williams, and
Neonna Witty, along with guard
Taylor Dillard, are all set to complete their time representing the blue and white at the conclusion of the spring semester.
Leading the way in scoring for the Oaks was
Emilee Hope, who posted a game high 20 points, on 7-13 from shooting, including 4-10 from beyond the arc.
Marissa Austin also reached double figures in scoring, notching 13 counters, followed by Dillard's 12 point effort.
Davinique Campbell added eight points and a team best nine rebounds, while
Monesjia Harvey handed out a game high five assists.
Lilly Maple came off the bench to lead the Cougars in scoring, making 6-9 from the field and 4-5 from the foul line to score 17 points. Olivia Dowden also reached double figures, scoring 13, while Anna Kiser hauled in a game high 10 rebounds.
As a team, the Oaks made 35-76 (46.1%) from the field, including 9-25 (36.0%) from three point range. IU Kokomo went 26-66 (39.4%) from the floor, making 4-15 (26.7%) from long range. OCU went 20-28 (71.4%) from the foul line compared to 7-14 (50.0%) for the visiting Cougars.
Overall, OCU led 46-41 in rebounds, including a 14-12 edge on the offensive boards. The Oaks led 20-13 in assists, 18-6 in steals, and 4-1 in blocked shots, as well as a 25-12 lead in turnovers.
OCU will conclude their regular season play when they travel to Terre Haute, Indiana, for a double-header against the Pomeroys of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College on February 18, scheduled to tip off at 5:30 pm.
