Box Score OAKLAND CITY, IN- The Oakland City University softball team snapped IU Southeast's 11 game winning streak on a Sunday afternoon split with the Grenadiers. IU Southeast won game one 7-0 before the Mighty Oaks took advantage in game two winning 9-5.
A slow start in game one held up the Mighty Oaks trailing 0-5 in the bottom of the 3rd inning. The Mighty Oaks came close to scoring in the 2nd inning with a triple off the right center wall by
Hannah Wissel, but the Oaks failed to capitalize on this effort with 2 ground outs and a strikeout following that play. The Mighty Oaks had 3 total hits in game one, and not much else could get going.
In the circle for game one was Freshman,
Liberty Smith, she thew 2.2 innings allowing 7 hits and 5 runs. Relieving Smith was Steinbrenner who threw 3.1 innings allowing 3 hits and 2 runs while walking 1 batter.
Game two started out a lot better for the Mighty Oaks as they quickly took the lead in the 2nd inning after a series of errors by the Grenadiers found the Mighty Oaks up 1-0. The big inning for the Mighty Oaks was the third as the Mighty Oaks put together a 5 run inning to take a 5-2 lead going into the 4th. Runs were scored on a Ward single, a Wissel single, a wild pitch, a sac fly, and a double! After allowing 1 run in the bottom of the 3rd, the Mighty Oaks once again loaded the scoreboard with 3 more runs in the 4th. After a Goforth walk, and a Ward single,
Hannah Wissel stepped up and banged her second triple of the day to right center field scoring both Goforth and Ward. Two plays later, Wissel was driven in by a Haire single.
