Saint Mary-of-the-Woods Sprint Football Overwhelms Mighty Oaks

Oakland City, IN - The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College Pomeroys showed why they are the defending Midwest Sprint Football League champions as they routed the Mighty Oaks in Oakland City University's second game in program history. Despite holding the visitors scoreless for the opening 10 minutes, SMWC broke through and never looked back, as the Oaks saw the scoreboard read 59-0 at the final horn.

The Oakland City University offense never was able to establish a rhythm, struggling to gain a total of 112 yards in the game, 24 on the ground and 88 in the air, picking up nine first downs along the way. Jacob Lee, who scored the first touchdown in program history last week and making his second start at quarterback for the Oaks, was limited to 9-24 passing for 79 yards and two interceptions. Ke'Wyan Washington managed to pick up 35 yards on the ground on seven rushing attempts, while Austin Davenport grabbed three catches for 24 yards.

The Pomeroys were led by Jeremiah Tosky in the passing game, who completed 9-22 passes for 141 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. Keandre Jones mounted 130 yards on 11 carries, while scoring two touchdowns, while Patrick Perea also eclipsed 100 yards rushing, gaining 105 on 18 carries with one score. Carlos Munoz, Jr. hauled in four catches for 40 yards, while Derron Hazzard had just one catch, but made it count as a 21-yard touchdown reception.

Defensively, Tyler Young and Keith Hall each had seven tackles, with Hall leading the team with three tackles for loss. Brendan Graeber forced one fumble, while Torian (Foster) Tillison and Braydon Wathen each had a pickoff.

The Mighty Oaks will be back in action on Saturday, September 30, when they play their first road game of the season in North Canton, Ohio, when they play fellow newcomer Walsh University, who also has started the season 0-2. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:00 am CST/12:00 pm EST.
