Men’s Basketball Falls 80-76 to WVU Tech

Oakland City, IN – On a busy day at the Johnson Center the Oakland City men's basketball team took on the WVU Tech Golden Bears who are coming in on a six-game win streak. The Mighty Oaks are coming off a big road win against Alice Lloyd on Tuesday, which saw junior Sam Muller put up 40 points and 17 rebounds in the 109-104 double overtime win.

On Saturday, the Mighty Oaks led the Golden Bears 11-3, 4-1 (RSC) for over 30 mins but were unable to prevail, falling 80-76, bringing the overall record to 7-8, 2-3 (RSC).

Five players scored in double figures for the Mighty Oaks with junior Drake Moore leading the way with 14 points, five rebounds, two assists and shooting a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line. Junior Sam Muller and senior Abdul Wurie each posted a double-double, with Muller going for 13 points and 11 rebounds and Wurie having 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Redshirt freshman Hunter Johnson finished the game with 10 points, five rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal. Freshman Josh Williams had a good game off the bench going 4-5 from the field scoring 10 points.

WVU Tech's Braden Champman had 31 points, six steals, five rebounds and two assists while teammate Ashton Parker finished the game with 22 points, 11 rebounds, seven blocks and two steals in the win for the Golden Bears.

Oakland City will look to get back into the win column as it remains home for the next two games against Point Park University 14-1, 4-1 (RSC) on January 11th and Shawnee State 9-5, 4-1 (RSC) on January 13th.
