Oakland City, IN - The Oakland City women's basketball team continued its strong start to 2024 with an 86-65 win over the WVU Tech Golden Bears on Saturday afternoon.
Coming off a dominating road win over Alice Lloyd on Tuesday, the Mighty Oaks again won in convincing fashion to remain perfect in River States Conference play, bringing the overall record to 9-5, 5-0 (RSC).
It was a total team effort with eight players seeing over 20 minutes of action and four players scoring in double figures. Senior Jalaya Dowell led the way with 22 points, 14 rebounds, two blocks and a steal. Senior Emilee Hope finished the game with 19 points, eight rebounds and a team high five steals.
Sophomore Kyrisha Hay and senior Marissa Austin both finished with 11 points and three rebounds each with senior Erin Whitehead adding seven points, four rebounds and an assist.
Senior Monesjia Harvey and graduate Tabatha Klem each contributed six points with Klem recording eight rebounds, three blocks and two assists and Harvey finishing with three rebounds, three assists and a steal.
Redshirt sophomore Gabrielle Joyner finished with four points, four rebounds, two steals and one assist while going 2-2 from the free throw line where the Mighty Oaks held a big advantage in the game. Oakland City went 20-26 from the line while the Golden Bears went only 4-7.
Oakland City looks to continue its strong play in the RSC as it hosts Point Park University on January 11th in the Johnson Center.
