Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Advances to RSC Championship in a Thriller

Evansville, IN- Leading off the River States Conference Semifinal Match ups, the Mighty Oaks Women's Soccer team took the field at North High School in Bundrant Stadium against West Virginia Tech University. The game started very quickly, and not in the Mighty Oaks favor as the Golden Bears controlled the ball for the first 20-25 minutes of the game before coming up with their first goal.

In the 31st minute, the Golden Bears were awarded a free kick. Sydney Chapman stepped up and rocketed a ball on target, just clipping the cross bar and bouncing right to the head of teammate Julia Silva who headed the ball in. This goal took the lead for the Bears and stunned the Mighty Oaks. The game continued at 1-0 going into the halftime rest.

As the temperatures dropped and the sun started to as well, the Mighty Oaks looked to face defeat for the first time in conference play. As the game went on the Mighty Oaks started to gain a little more control, and started to look like the number one, undefeated seed in the RSC. In the 72nd minute, the Mighty Oaks finally broke through the strong defense of the Golden Bears. Camilla Bedin broke through and headed the ball in on a free kick from Paula Roldan to level the game at 1-1. Not too long after that, River States Conference Offensive Player of the Year and Player of the Year, Macey Woolcock, dribbled right through the entire Golden Bears defense, and right past the keeper to tap in the game winning goal for the Mighty Oaks making it 2-1.

Leading for the Mighty Oaks was Woolcock and Bedin with two shots each, both on goal, with one goal each. Yazia Ramos saved one on two shots on goal for the Golden Bears.

The RSC Final is set for Wednesday night at 7:30 pm at the Goebel Sports Complex in Evansville, IN. It will be a rematch of a their Halloween matchup where the Oaks won 3-1.
