WOMENS BASKETBALL WINS 83-62

Oakland City, IN – The Mighty Oaks women's basketball team improved its record to 3-2 on the season with a 83-62 win over Simmons College of Kentucky, handing the falcons their first loss of the season.

Oakland City got off to a hot start dominating the opening quarter on the boards and scoring 26 first quarter points.  Leading the way for the Mighty Oaks in the scoring column was fifth year senior Emilee Hope who scored 10 in the first quarter, she finished her night with 22 points, six rebounds and four assists. The Mighty Oaks led 26-15 to start the second quarter but the Falcons hit a barrage of three pointers to keep the score close.  If it weren't for three technical fouls being called on Simmons in the first half the score may have been closer, but the Mighty Oaks were able to take advantage at the free throw line. Oakland City finished the game 31-40 (77.5%) from the line and went into halftime leading 41-35.

In the second half, fifth year senior Marissa Austin had her own 10-point quarter in the third and took over the scoring for the Mighty Oaks in the second half to close out Simmons by a score of 83-62. Austin completed the contest with 23 points, three rebounds, one assist and shot a perfect 10-10 from the free throw line.  Oakland City was strong on the boards with a 57-39 rebounding advantage, Senior Monesjia Harvey and Junior Taylor Williams led the Mighty Oaks with 11 rebounds each. Junior Kyrisha Hay scored 11 points and had 6 rebounds while all other Mighty Oaks were able to get in the score column.

After winning the first two games of the season in decisive fashion then losing by single digits in back-to-back contest, the Mighty Oaks hope to use their momentum from this win to finish November strong against Spring Arbor and St. Thomas who come to town on November 26th and November 27th.
