In two close games, the Lakers of Roosevelt University were able to take home two victories. Leaving the Mighty Oaks baseball team empty-handed. Their record on the season is now 9-4.
Game 1
Roosevelt got on the board first, scoring two in the second and one in the third inning. Oakland City cut down the deficit by one run in the bottom of the third. After
Artem Logvinov reached base on a dropped fly ball to left field, he was able to score on a base hit from
Sam Pinckert. This was the only run that the Mighty Oaks were able to manufacture, making 1-3 the final score. The pitchers for Oakland City were
Mick Uebelhor (L, 4 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 3 SO) and
Blake Mincey (3 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 SO).
Game 2
A game later, the lack of offense hurt Oakland City once again. In the fourth inning, the Mighty Oaks turned a 0-2 deficit into a 4-2 lead. A couple of free bases and a 2-RBI single from
JT Smallwood were the recipe for a four-run inning. The lead wouldn't last as Roosevelt came back and scored three in the top of the fifth. One more run for the Lakers in the seventh put the final score at 4-6.
Oakland City used five arms in the second game.
Cole Lambird (3.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1 SO) started the game. His relievers were
Nick Coleman (0.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 1 SO),
Milan van der Breggen (L, 1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 SO),
Blake Pruitt (1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 SO) and
Hunter Callahan (1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 SO).
The Mighty Oaks will host two doubleheaders versus Aquinas College this weekend. On Saturday and Sunday, first pitch is scheduled at noon.
