Midweek Sweep for Baseball Versus Lourdes

On Wednesday afternoon, the Oakland City baseball team took on Lourdes University for a midweek doubleheader. With two victories, the Mighty Oaks improved their overall record to 17-6.

Game 1
The Oakland City offense collected twelve hits and twelve runs in seven innings versus Lourdes University. Three runs were scored in the bottom of the first, Noah Baugher and Oliver Hamilton (RBI) collected base knocks to contribute to the early offense. A Noah Baugher single and a Fred Fernandez double allowed for two runners to be in scoring position early in the third inning. Oliver Hamilton brought home Baugher with a sacrifice fly. Leyton Ivers collected a single, which allowed Fernandez to score the fifth Oakland City run.

Baugher stayed hot in the fourth, as he collected another basehit, this allowed Aron Busick to score. Busick got on base earlier with a triple. The Mighty Oaks surrendered two runs in the top of the fifth via a homerun, that was the only offense Lourdes was able to create. In the bottom half of the inning, Leyton Ivers collected his third RBI of the day with a single to right field.

More runs were added in the bottom of the sixth. Aron Busick led off with a homerun to right field. Hits from Noah Baugher – his fourth of the day – and Kaden Hurless contributed to a five-run inning. This made the final score 12-2 in Oakland City's favor.

Coach Andy Lasher used six arms in this first game versus Lourdes. All pitchers used combined for ten strikeouts while only giving up two hits. Tommy Johnson (1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 SO) started the game, Hunter Callahan (1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 SO), Kiefer Parsons (W, 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 SO), Christian Burgrabe (1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 0 SO), Kendric Sorgius (1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 SO) and Milan van der Breggen (1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 SO) all came in the game out of the bullpen.

Game 2
After a big win in game one, the second game was a little bit of a closer game. The Mighty Oaks did not score until the fourth inning. Fred Fernandez led off the bottom of the fourth with a double. His pinch-runner, Blake Herrmann, was able to score the 1-0 on a single from Artem Logvinov. Pete Britton followed with a single through the right side. Kendric Sorgius added on, as he singled to right field which allowed Logvinov to score as well.

Alec Pruitt, led off the sixth inning with a single to right-center field. Pruitt's courtesy runner, Mason Simon, advanced to third base on a pair of groundouts. Leyton Ivers singled to bring home the third Oakland City run. This was all the Mighty Oaks needed, as the pitching staff only allowed one hit in the game. This resulted in a 3-0 victory, to complete the sweep over Lourdes.

Once again, six pitchers were used. Cole Lambird started the game, throwing three no-hit innings. He allowed just one baserunner on an error and struck out four. His relief pitchers were Konnor Kreinbrook (0 IP, 1 H, 0 R,1 BB, 0 SO), Evan Price (W, 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 SO), Cameron Madden (1 IP, 0 H, 0 R 0 BB, 2 SO), Nick Coleman (1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 SO) and Blake Mincey (S, 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 SO).
