Oakland City, IN-- Oakland City put together its most complete offensive performance of the season Tuesday night, shooting a blistering 61 percent from the field and using a dominant second half to pull away for a 93–64 win over UHSP at the Johnson Center. The victory moved the Mighty Oaks to 1–4, while the Eutectics fell to 2–6.
Five Oakland City players scored in double figures, led by Dior Davis, who finished with 20 points, five rebounds, four assists, and two steals in 31 minutes. Davis was perfect from the field in the first half and continued to control the pace as the game wore on. Chris Grubbs added 19 points, nine rebounds, and four assists, anchoring the paint and sparking several scoring runs after halftime.
Lohan Stephane Djiya contributed 11 points, six rebounds, and four blocks, while K'Shawn Scott (10 points, five rebounds, three blocks) and Garth Jepsen (eight points, six rebounds) helped the Oaks' bench produce 27 points on an efficient night.
UHSP stayed close during a tightly contested opening stretch that featured nine ties and five lead changes, and the Eutectics trailed just 14–10 midway through the first half. But Oakland City closed the period on a steady run fueled by defensive pressure and transition opportunities, building a 39–28 lead at the break.
The Mighty Oaks seized complete control early in the second half, opening with a burst that quickly stretched the margin to 20. By the eight-minute mark, Oakland City had ballooned its lead to 31 points, its largest of the night. The Oaks dominated the paint 56–42, turned 17 UHSP turnovers into 18 points, and finished with 19 assists on 38 made field goals.
Landon Engelage led UHSP with 14 points, while Jasmin Suvalija added 11 points, four assists, and two steals. Bryant Odunayo scored 10 points, including a pair of threes, and Christian Harwood chipped in eight off the bench.
For Oakland City, the win marked a much-needed breakthrough after a difficult season start, as the team shot over 62 percent in the second half and showcased the balanced, efficient attack it has been seeking. The Mighty Oaks return to action later this week, while UHSP looks to regroup after consecutive road losses.
