Oakland City, IN – The Mighty Oaks baseball team hosted the Gameday Experience on Tuesday evening as they faced off against the Blue Raiders of Lindsey Wilson College. In front of a big crowd, the Oaks offense put up twelve runs to secure the twentieth win of the season.
The offense started in the second inning when
Fred Fernandez,
Hudson Allen and
Kendric Sorgius all singled to load the bases.
Dicky Gonzalez drove in the first run when he reached base on an error. A fielder's choice for
Will Gibbs allowed the second run to score.
Marcos Arocho singled to centerfield to make it 3-0 before
Xander Willis went yard to make it a 6-0 ballgame.
The Blue Raiders came back in the ballgame by scoring four runs in the top of the fifth, a homerun and four basehits were the cause of the four runs. In the bottom half of the inning, Oakland City scored again. After a hit by pitch for
Hudson Allen and a single from
Kendric Sorgius, the Mighty Oaks had runners on the corners. An errant throw on a pickoff to first base allowed Allen to score the 7-4. An inning later, the home squad scored four more runs. Walks for
Will Gibbs and
Marcos Arocho put runners on the corners, allowing
Xander Willis to drive in a run with a single.
Moises Rosario followed with an RBI double.
Josh Russell drove in the tenth run of the game with an RBI groundout.
Hudson Allen singled up the middle which allowed courtesy runner
JT Smallwood to score.
The twelfth run of the game scored in the bottom of the seventh inning when
Dicky Gonzalez and
Xander Willis pulled off a double steal with runners on first and third. The final score ended up being 12-4.
The Mighty Oaks used four pitchers in this game.
Clark Gries started and pitched three innings of no-hit baseball. He walked two and struck out two.
Cole Lambird came in in relief, he pitched 1.1 innings, allowing five hits and four runs (earned) while walking one.
Luis Pezzotti (2.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 SO) and
Landen Ray (2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 SO) closed out the game.
Today, the baseball developmental team will take on the Bobcats of Frontier Community College in Fairfield, IL. On Thursday and Friday, it is time for River States Conference baseball as the Oaks host a three-game series versus the University of Rio Grande.
