Oakland City's women's soccer team delivered a commanding performance on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Freed-Hardeman (TN) by a score of 10–0 at the Goebel Complex. The Mighty Oaks struck early and never looked back, improving their record to 2-1-1 on the season, while Freed-Hardeman fell to 0-4-1.
Oakland City wasted little time setting the tone. In the 11th minute, Norka Fergusson opened the scoring with the first goal of the match, assisted by Camilla Bedin. From there, the Mighty Oaks piled on four more goals before halftime, including two from Bedin and tallies from Sara Espinosa and Alex Ortiz, to take a 5–0 lead into the break.
The offensive onslaught continued in the second half. Berta Del Hoyo Borre netted a pair of goals, while Paula Roldan, Lena Poulain, and Bedin — who completed a hat trick with her third of the afternoon — rounded out the scoring. Bedin also contributed two assists in the victory.
Oakland City fired 24 shots, 17 on goal, forcing the Freed-Hardeman goalkeepers into a busy day. Ava Pierce and Avery Branch combined for seven saves but allowed five goals apiece.
Meanwhile, Oakland City's defense held Freed-Hardeman to just one shot on target. Goalkeeper Claudia Perez Brito stopped that lone attempt, recording the shutout.
The Mighty Oaks spread the scoring around, with nine different players registering either a goal or assist. Bedin led the way with three goals and two assists, while Borre added two goals and Espinosa, Roldan, Ortiz, Fergusson, and Poulain each chipped in a score.
Oakland City will look to carry the momentum forward in their next match, while Freed-Hardeman will regroup in search of their first win of the season.
