The Oakland City University women's soccer team put together one of its most impressive stretches of the season this past week, rolling to a pair of commanding victories. The Mighty Oaks blanked Indiana University East 4-0 at home on Thursday before unleashing an 11-1 rout of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College on the road Saturday afternoon.
On their home turf, the Oaks set the tone early against the visiting Red Wolves. Senior midfielder Jana Mueller calmly slotted home a penalty kick in the 20th minute to open the scoring. Just 10 minutes later, Mueller turned provider, finding Norka Fergusson for a well-placed finish that doubled the advantage.
The second half brought more of the same. Macey Woolcock made it 3-0 in the 69th minute, once again with Mueller involved in the buildup. Camilla Bedin then converted a late penalty to cap the victory.
OCU outshot IU East 20-4, forcing goalkeeper Elizabeth Sarfo-Benson into eight saves. The Oaks' back line locked down defensively, allowing just a handful of chances on goal.
Offense Erupts at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods
Two days later, the Mighty Oaks hit the road and delivered an offensive clinic. Seven different players found the back of the net in an 11-1 victory over the Pomeroys.
Bedin got things started in the 35th minute, and Woolcock quickly followed to make it 2-0. After the break, OCU poured it on, with Mueller leading the charge by scoring multiple goals and setting up teammates. Alex Ortiz, Maggie Mubuto, and Lena Poulain all joined the score sheet as the Oaks kept the pressure on until the final whistle.
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods' only tally came via an OCU own goal, as goalkeeper Alicia Garwood was otherwise untested behind a defense that conceded just one shot.
The weekend sweep highlighted the versatility of Oakland City's attack and the resilience of its defense. Mueller had a hand in five goals across the two matches, while Woolcock and Bedin continued their strong scoring form.
With contributions coming from across the roster and momentum trending upward, the Mighty Oaks look well-positioned as conference play intensifies.
