Carrying a record of 13-5, including wins in their last eight outings, the Mighty Oaks hosted the Falcons of Simmons College of Kentucky, from Louisville, in the Johnson Center. OCU scored the final 21 points of the first half to take a 49-22 lead into the locker room, and used an 8-0 run to start the second period to win 92-63.
Andrew Scott led all scorers in the contest, making 9-17 from the field, including 3-8 from beyond the arc, on his way to 25 points. Logan Worthington posted 23 counters, on 8-11 shooting, to go with eight rebounds, while Tyler Toopes had a double-double, scoring 21 points, on 6-12 shooting, while hauling in a game high 12 rebounds. Scott and Toopes each had seven assists, while Bryant Nalley came off the bench to add nine points, seven boards and four assists.
Michael Howell, coming off the bench, made 7-14 of his shot attempts to lead the Falcons with 18 points. Korey Mosley was the only other Simmons player to score in double digits, posting 12 counters on 5-11 shooting. Jon Henry and James Mosley each had nine points in the loss.
For the game, the Oaks shot 31-51 (60.8%) from the field, including 10-23 (43.5%) from beyond the arc. The Falcons scored on 24-65 (36.9%) of their shot attempts, making 6-24 (25.0%) from three point range. OCU made 20-25 (80.0%) from the charity stripe, while Simmons scored on 9-12 (75.0%) from the foul line.
As a team, OCU led in rebounding 36-30, despite trailing 10-4 on the offensive glass. The Oaks handed out 25 assists, compared to six for the Falcons, while trailing in turnovers 15-12.
OCU will be back in action on Wednesday, January 30, when they host Campbellsville University-Harrodsburg, in the Johnson Center. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
