The Lady Oaks hosted the Falcons of Simmons College of Kentucky, out of Louisville, looking to win their second in a row, and seventh straight at home. After opening a 41-19 halftime lead, OCU cruised to a winning score of 99-39.
Shannon Pittman led all scorers in the game, making 7-12 from the field, including 2-5 from beyond the arc, on her way to 26 points. Julyen Condra added 20 counters, on 9-13 shooting, while Emma Lander came up with 16, making 7-12. Aricka Prentice posted 10 points, while joining Pittman with a game best nine rebounds each. Prentice and Condra each piched up seven steals, while Kiare Young handed out a game high eight assists.
Stacia Hayes was the only Falcon to score in double digits, posting 10 points, on 5-10 shooting from the field. Terri Turner and Hayes each had nine rebounds, while DaVianna Ruff scored seven points to go with seven boards.
As a team, OCU shot 41-76 (53.9%) from the field, including 6-14 (42.9%) from three point range. Simmons connected on 17-66 (25.8%) of their shot attempts, making 1-25 (4.0%) from beyond the arc. Both teams struggles from the free throw line, with the Oaks making 11-24 (45.8%) and the Falcons connecting on 4-12 (33.3%).
The Oaks held a 57-38 rebounding lead, including a 19-14 advantage on the offensive boards. OCU handed out 32 assists, compared to seven for Simmons, while winning the turnover battle 17-30, with the Oaks leading in steals 26-9.
Next up for the Lady Oaks is a road game on Friday, February 1, as OCU travels to Frankfort, Kentucky, to take on the Kentucky State University Thoroughbreds. Game time is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
