Despite 44 points off the bench by the Lady Oaks, the Oakland City University women's basketball team was unable to put up much of a fight against the visiting Eagles of Asbury University, losing in the Johnson Center 113-76. The loss drops the OCU record to 1-4 on the season, while AU moves to 9-1.
Tabby Klem led the way for the Oaks, going 6-12 from the field, including 3-6 from three point range, while scoring on 9-10 from the foul line, on her way to 24 points.
Kiare Young added 18 counters, while
Hailey Marchino chipped in with nine.
Laurin Bentley hauled in a team best nine rebounds, while Young and Klem each had five assists.
Kelsey Johnson paced the Eagles, scoring a game high 28 points, on 9-16 shooting, while making 9-11 from the charity stripe. Jaclynn Ruble chipped in with 19, followed by 12 by Autumn Herriford. Zaria Napier came off the bench to pour in 11, while Sarah King added 10 counters to go with eight assists. Sarah Dennison led the way for Asbury in rebounds, hauling in 11 missed shots to go with a game high five steals.
As a team, OCU shot 24-65 (36.9%) from the field, including 7-25 (28.0%) from three point range. Asbury connected on 44-87 (50.6%) of their shot attempts, going 10-33 (30.3%) from beyond the arc. The Oaks made 21-24 (87.5%) from the foul line, compared to 15-23 (65.2%) for the visiting Eagles.
OCU trailed in rebounding 50-38, including a deficit of 16-10 on the offensive glass. The Oaks handed out 20 assists, four fewer than Asbury, while losing the turnover battle 34-21.
Next up for the Oaks will be a home game against Welch College, in the Johnson Center, on Monday, November 25, tipping off at 1:00 pm.
