Oakland City, IN - The Oakland City University women's basketball team hosted the Hilltoppers of Ohio University-Chillicothe, looking to get back on track at the end of the first semester. After opening a 52-17 halftime lead, OCU cruised to an easy victory, winning 95-44.
Kiare Young led the Oaks in scoring, putting up 21 points, on 9-17 shooting, while handing out seven assists.
McKendree Ward had her first collegiate double-double, scoring 19 points, on 8-13 shooting, while dishing out 10 assists.
Reanne Kietlinski added 14 points, on 5-7 shooting, followed by
Tabby Klem, who had 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Malia Schmittler also had a double-double, with 10 points and a game high 11 rebounds.
Braiden Collins was the only Hilltopper to reach double figures, scoring a game high 25 points, on 11-30 shooting, while hauling in six rebounds. Cadee Causey had seven points and six boards, while joining Collins with a game high four steals each.
As a team, OCU shot 38-83 (45.8%) from the field, including 12-30 (40.0%) from three point range. OU-Chillicothe made 19-71 (26.8%) of their shot attempts, going 3-20 (15.0%) from beyond the arc. The Oaks scored on 7-8 (87.5%) from the foul line, compared to 3-10 (30.0%) for the visiting Hilltoppers.
For the game, the Oaks handed out 27 assists, compared to just six for the Hilltoppers, wihile winning the turnover battle 17-15. OCU held a 67-36 rebounding advantage, including a 21-11 lead on the offensive glass.
OCU improved to 3-8 with the win, while OU-Chillicothe dropped to 1-10 on the season. These teams will face off in a rematch tomorrow, at the Johnson Center, tipping off at 1:15 pm.
