Oakland City, IN - The Lady Oaks hosted the Chargers of Southeastern Baptist College, out of Laurel, Mississippi, for Homecoming, looking to finish the season with a pair of home victories. After building a 50-35 halftime lead, the Oaks held on to win 89-73.
Emma Lander scored a team high 18 points, leading six OCU players in double figures.
Tabby Klem tallied 16, followed by 13 each from
Malia Schmittler and
Reanne Kietlinski.
McKendree Ward added a dozen, followed by
Kiare Young, who had a double-double, with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Kietlinski and Ward each had game highs of seven assists.
Tyra Conerly shot 12-27 from the field, leading the Chargers with a game high 31 points. Deseree Moore added 24 points, while Rashida Cheddick hauled in a team best nine rebounds to go with five points and four blocked shots.
As a team, OCU shot 34-65 (52.3%) from the field, including 5-13 (38.5%) from three point range. SBC made 27-70 (38.6%) of their shot attempts, going 6-23 (26.1%) from beyond the arc. The Oaks made 16-19 (84.2%) from the free throw line, compared to 13-21 (61.9%) for the visiting Chargers.
Oakland City handed out 26 assists, compared to just 10 for the Chargers, while losing the turnover battle 28-21. The Oaks led 45-35 on the glass, despite trailing 13-11 on the offensive boards.
These teams will square off again tomorrow, tipping off at 1:15, in the Johnson Center.
