Oakland City, IN - Oakland City University is proud to announce the hiring of
Larry Hinshaw as the Head Coach of the OCU women's volleyball program. The former head coach of Southern Wesleyan University, Coach Hinshaw brings a wealth of experience to the sidelines for the Mighty Oaks, having coached volleyball for over 20 years.
Coach Hinshaw comes to Oakland City University after spending the last three years coaching at Marion High School, in Marion, Indiana, serving as the head coach for the 2018 and 2019 seasons after being an assistant coach in 2017. He also spent the last three seasons as the Club Director and Coach for the TEK Volleyball Club in Tipton, Indiana.
From 2013-2017, Hinshaw was an assistant coach at Taylor University, in Upland, Indiana, where he helped recruit and coach players who earned 19 Academic All-Conference, eight First Team All-Conference, five Second Team All-Conference, four Honorable Mention All-Conference, one Freshman Team All-Conference, one Setter of the Year, and one Libero of the Year awards.
During the 2009-12 seasons, Coach Hinshaw served as an assistant coach at Indiana Wesleyan University, in Marion, Indiana, earning the AVCA/NAIA National Assistant Coach of the Year award in 2011, after the team reached the NAIA Final Site for the first time in school history, finishing with the #13 ranking at the end of the year, while their setter was named an NAIA All-American. The 2010 season ended with IWU earning the NCCAA National Championship banner, while the team reached as high as a #12 seed in the national NAIA rankings during Hinshaw's time with the Wildcats.
While working at Indiana Wesleyan University, Hinshaw also served as the Assistant Track Meet Manager from 2010-16, including three years assisting with the NAIA National Track and Field Championships for three years.
From 2006-07, he served as the Club Director for the Cornerstone Volleyball Club in O'Fallon, Missouri, after spending the 2005 season as the Head Volleyball Coach at Jay County High School in Portland, Indiana.
Hinshaw was the Head Volleyball Coach at Southern Wesleyan University from 2001-2005, leading the team to their first NAIA Region XIII finals. He was named the Georgia-Alabama Conference Coach of the Year in 2002, and coached eight Academic All-Americans, nine First Team All-Conference players, three Second Team All-Conference players, three All-Region players, and one Player of the Year. He also served as SWU's co-sponsor for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Before accepting the Southern Wesleyan University position, Hinshaw spent the 1999-2000 season as an assistant coach at Birmingham-Southern College, in Birmingham, Alabama. From 1996-1999, he was the Facilities Director and Coach at the Divers Volleyball Club, in Manteno, Illinois, while spending 1997-1998 serving as an assistant coach for Olivet Nazarene University, in Bourbonnais, Illinois.
Coach Hinshaw has been the Camp Director for Taylor University (2014-15), Jay County High School (2005-06), Southern Wesleyan University (2001-04), and Birmingham-Southern College (2000), while serving as a Camp Coach for Ball State University, the University of Illinois, Michigan State University, Bowling Green State University, Purdue University, the University of Wisconsin, The Ohio State University, Taylor University, Indiana Wesleyan University, Southern Wesleyan University, Birmingham-Southern College, Olivet Nazarene University, Kankakee Community College, Addison High School (Dallas, TX), Jay County High School (Portland, IN), Integrated Athletic Development (Carrollton, TX), Nazarene Recreation (Chicago, IL), and Reebok (Manteno, IL).
Hinshaw earned his Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Olivet Nazarene University in 1997.
