Oakland City, IN – In their season opener, the Women's Basketball team took on Roosevelt University on the newly renovated floor of the Johnson Center. What seemed to be a close game in the first quarter, turned into a big win for the Lady Oaks in the latter half of the game.

FahKara Hawkins came out of the first period with a score of 29-26. In the second period, the lead grew significantly as the home team was up 59-42 by halftime.
Jalaya Dowell and
Davinique Campbell played a big role, both leading the team in points with seventeen.
The Mighty Oaks lead kept growing in the third period. Going into the fourth period, the Oaks were op 90-65. A little bit of slacking off near the end resulted in a little less offense, but it was enough to keep the lead in possession, winning the game with a score of 109-85.
Tabatha Klem led the team in free throws, scoring six out of six attempts. She also played a big role in starting a lot of the offense with seven rebounds on the day, Campbell had eight.
Taylor Dillard had five assists, she was followed by
Moniek Meeringa in the leaderboard, who had four.
As a team, the Lady Oaks scored 42 of their 79 field goals, resulting in a 53.2% field goal percentage. Six out of sixteen three-point attempts were completed and from the free throw line, the Oaks had a 79.2% scoring percentage, finding the basket nineteen out of 24 times.
With this victory, Oakland City's record is now 1-0 going into the next home game on November 1, when they're playing Huntington University at 6:00 PM
