St. Louis, MO – After the exhibition match at the University of Evansville, the Mighty Oaks opened their season in St. Louis. The Eutectics of the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy were the first opponent.
The score was opened by a three-pointer from Drake Moore. Domantas Sakickas doubled the score with another three-pointer. A good start for the Mighty Oaks carried with them for the duration of the game, as the lead was never lost.
By the end of the first half, Oakland City was up 38-30. In the second half, the Mighty Oaks kept extending the lead. Especially from the free throw line Oakland City showed some improvement from the exhibition game last week. Fifteen out of nineteen free throws were made for a free throw percentage of 79.
Oakland City managed to score 45 points in the second half, compared to 35 made by UHSP. The final score of the game was 83-65 in advantage of the Mighty Oaks. With this first win of the season, coach
Ken French and his team improved their record to 1-0 on the year.
For the Mighty Oaks, Drake Moore led the team in three-pointers made, scoring three on four attempts. This also helped him on the way to leading the team in points (19), he was followed by
Tyquez Priester who scored sixteen during the game. Priester was unstoppable from the free throw line, making six in six attempts. The 6'5" Junior also led the team in rebounds, with eleven.
Next up on the schedule for the Mighty Oaks is a game at Simmons College of Kentucky, on Saturday November 5 at noon in Louisville, KY. Simmons College is currently 0-2 on the year after playing some of the Mighty Oaks' conference rivals in Indiana University Southeast and Midway University.
