Box Score McKenzie, TN – On a beautiful Tuesday afternoon, where temperatures got up to 75 degrees, the Mighty Oaks baseball team traveled to McKenzie, Tennessee to take on the Bethel Wildcats. In a high scoring affair, the Mighty Oaks fell short and lost their second game of the year.
After two quick outs, the Mighty Oaks ended up scoring four runs in the first inning. A walk for
Treven Madden, a single from
Conner Oxley, two more walks and two more hit by pitches, allowed the Mighty Oaks team to score four in the top of the first.
The Bethel Wildcats didn't seem to be bothered by this early deficit. They scored four runs themselves in the first inning, to make it a tie ballgame.
Where the Oakland City offense struggled to put much together, the Wildcats kept hitting the ball hard and built a big lead. Three runs in the second and three in the fourth, put the score at 4-10.
In the top of the fifth inning,
Xander Willis connected with a ball for a solo homerun.
Garrett Causey followed with a double. It looked like the Mighty Oaks were getting back in the game. Causey would end up scoring on a fielder's choice RBI from
Sam Pinckert. That was it for the Mighty Oaks offense in that inning, and also for the rest of the game.
The Wildcats didn't manage to score anymore runs either, leaving the score at 6-10 in McKenzie.
Treven Madden,
Conner Oxley,
Payton Hall,
Xander Willis (HR) and Garret Causey (2B) all got hits, but it wasn't enough for a Mighty Oaks victory.
On the mound for Oakland City,
Christian Burgrabe (1 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 0 BB, 0 SO),
Owen Spears (2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 SO),
Tyler Butler (1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 2 SO),
Milan van der Breggen (3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 SO) and
Luke Osborn (1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 SO) all toed the rubber in this nine inning midweek game.
Tomorrow the JV baseball squad will travel to Mount Carmel, Illinois for a nine-inning game versus Wabash Valley College at 1:00 PM. This weekend, River States Conference play for Oakland City. This will be the first time they take the field in League Stadium, which will function as their home stadium for the season.
