Evansville, IN- The Mighty Oaks Men's Tennis team completed their clean sweep of the River States Conference Tournament this weekend by beating Midway 4-0 to claim their 2nd Conference Championship in a row.
The Mighty Oaks claimed a first round bye in the tournament by dominating the regular season going 4-0 in conference play. In the Semifinals match up, they faced a tired Brescia Bearcats squad coming off of a 4-3 victory over IU-Southeast in the first round. The Mighty Oaks took quick advantage of the opening doubles point by winning 6-2 at 1 doubles and then 6-0 at 3 doubles. Shortly after doubles, 1st Team All Conference Winners,
Nelson Ramos and
Jose Andres Perez Perez took care of their singles points winning 6-1, 6-2 (Ramos) and 6-0, 6-3 (Perez Perez). The match was finished off with
Samarbir Sidhu making quick work at the 6 singles spot winning 6-0, 6-0.
After dominating the Semi-Finals, it was off to a tough test against Midway, whom the Mighty Oaks had already beaten 7-0 once this season. Once again, the Mighty Oaks went up very quickly in doubles with a 6-0 win with the 2 doubles team of
Juanes Pinto and
Nelson Ramos followed by the 3 doubles team of
Willem Cilliers and
Angel Gomez taking care of their match 6-2. Heading into the singles matches, Freshman,
Tomas Ojeda scored the second point for the Mighty Oaks after winning his match 6-3, 6-0. The third point came from the Conference Player and Newcomer of the Year,
Francisco Perez Esnoala taking care of buisness at 1 singles winning 6-0, 6-4. The championship final point came from
Samarbir Sidhu winning at the 6 singles spot 6-0, 6-3!
The Mighty Oaks advance to the NAIA National Tournament starting on May 16th in Mobile, AL. Stay tuned for an update on the draw.
