Men’s Tennis Falls 6-1 to Austin Peay

Evansville, IN-  The 15th ranked Mighty Oaks took on Division I opponent Austin Peay on Friday afternoon at the Evansville Tennis Center to open the spring season.

In doubles action, Austin Peay took down the number three team of freshman Benedikt Whittmann and newcomer Sebastian Bahamondes 6-2. At number two doubles freshman Christian Salmeron and sophomore Juanes Pinto played a close match before falling 7-5 which clinched the doubles point for Austin Peay.

Trailing 1-0 heading into singles the Mighty Oaks would need to find a way to win four matches to pull out the victory. Juanes Pinto was the only Mighty Oak player that was able to pull out a win in a three-set match against his opponent at three singles winning 6-4, 2-6, 6-1.

Sophomores Francisco Perez and Jose Perez Perez competed in the number one and two singles positions for the Mighty Oaks, but both fell in straight sets with Perez losing 6-3, 6-2 and Perez Perez losing 6-4, 6-2.

Christian Salmeron competed in the number four spot dropping his match 6-3, 6-4, while Tomas Ojeda and Louki Nivarlet rounded out the lineup at five and six singles falling by similar score lines of 6-2, 6-3 and 6-2, 6-4.

Next up for the Mighty Oak's is a trip to Indianapolis to take on the Marian Knights who are receiving votes in the Coaches' Preseason Top 25. The match will be played at the Indianapolis Healthplex starting at 12:30ET.
