Men's Tennis Downs #25 Marian University

Indianapolis, IN- In a top 25 match-up, the Oakland City Men's Tennis team downed #25 Marian University, 5-2.

The doubles started off very competitive, both #1 and #2 doubles were close the whole way but after a lopsided loss at #3 doubles (1-6) the Mighty Oaks had to bounce back at #1 and #2. The doubles team of sophomore Juanes Pinto and freshman Christian Salmeron found their first win of the season together after falling a break down early in the set. They broke back at 5-4 to win the match 6-4. Shortly after that, the pair of Sophomores Andres Perez Perez and Francisco Perez were able to capture a 6-4 win to clinch the doubles point.

As the singles started, the Mighty Oaks looked hot, taking the first set on all three of the courts. Andres Perez Perez locked up the second point of the day after dominating his opponent 6-2, 6-1 in straight sets. The third point came from Francisco Perez at number one singles, knocking his opponent down in straight sets as well 6-4, 6-4. With the 3-0 lead in the match, it was up to Sophomore, Juanes Pinto to close the match out. He took a quick lead winning the first 7-5, but fell in the second set 3-6. After starting the third set up 2-0, he never looked back, clinching the match for the Mighty Oaks with a 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 win for his second singles win in two matches.

The Mighty Oaks look to continue their momentum with a home match up against the Bears from Pikeville University on Saturday at Wood Memorial High School starting at 11 am.
